Regulatory inspection Lifting Equipment and Elevators

When should lifting equipment and elevators be inspected?

All lifting equipment must be inspected:
• Before being put into service
• Every 3 months thereafter
This includes cranes, hoists, and any equipment used to lift or handle loads, including those used occasionally for transporting people.
SECO Belgium ASBL/VZW is accredited under EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 to inspect:
• Passenger elevators
• Mobile platform lifts
• Construction hoists
• Overhead cranes, jib cranes, gantries
• Lifting accessories
• Vehicle lifts
• Material hoists and excavators
Passenger elevators must be inspected:
• Every 6 months (if maintenance is performed by an ISO 9001-certified provider)
• Every 3 months otherwise

Who is authorized to perform lifting equipment inspections?

Only SPF Employment and Labour-accredited bodies may conduct these inspections.
What must be prepared prior to the inspection?
• CE Declarations of Conformity
• For elevators: past inspection reports and maintenance logs

What is the result of the inspection?

A formal inspection report is provided after the visit
