Regulatory inspections High-voltage electrical installations

When should a high-voltage electrical installation be inspected?

High-voltage electrical installations must undergo an initial regulatory inspection prior to commissioning. Following this initial inspection, they are subject to annual periodic inspections.

Who is authorized to carry out regulatory inspections of high-voltage electrical installations?

Only inspection bodies accredited by the FPS Economy (Federal Public Service Economy) are authorized to carry out regulatory inspections of high-voltage installations. SECO Belgium ASBL/VZW is accredited by the FPS Economy for both initial and periodic inspections of such installations.

What must be prepared prior to the inspection of a high-voltage electrical installation?

The responsible person must make the following documentation available to the accredited inspection body:
• Electrical diagrams
• Applicable calculation notes
• Technical documentation
• Risk analysis report
• Grounding layout plan
• Documentation on external influences

What is the outcome of a regulatory inspection of a high-voltage electrical installation?

The accredited inspection body – for example, SECO Belgium ASBL/VZW – issues a formal inspection report following the site visit.

What are the consequences of failing to perform the inspection within the required timeframe?

The owner, operator, or site manager of a non-domestic electrical installation is responsible for ensuring inspections are performed on time. Any incident resulting from failure to comply with inspection obligations falls under their liability.
All accidents involving persons, whether directly or indirectly related to electrical installations, must be reported to the General Directorate for Energy of the FPS Economy.
